Incomeplete Time Travel Tale

People

Werner

Wilhelm

Fawkes

This is a story about time travel. I don’t know what elements I’m mixing together here, but this seems like it’s worth a try. Names bearing resemblance to any dead or living entity is purely coincidental, and this story is not scientifically verified, and won’t be verified soon enough.

“Do you think he’ll come back?”

“I don’t know”

“I didn’t ask if you knew. I asked what you think.”

“No.”

“What then? He died?”

“It certainly seems possible.”

“That was our last shot. We’re… doomed.”

“We are. But, so is the rest of the world.”

What had just happened was time travel. Wilhelm and Werner’s dear friend Fawkes had time traveled, In an attempt to save the world from the victors of WWII. The plan was simple, travel in time to the period in which Hitler was just born, and then, murder the baby Hitler.

Sounds simple, no? Well, it was a long way from it. The truth is, time travel does not work the way you probably think it does. Different decisions form a different timeline. Every moment, you’re making a choice, and that choice causes you to make another, and yet another choice. The mind is not fast enough to make each of these decisions consciously, and so each decision causing another is as quick as the demise of dominos.

What Fawkes was planning on doing here was altering history, causing an aberration in it. In simple terms, he was attempting to be quick enough to put his finger in the middle, and stopping the intended domino from falling, not causing the demise of the chain.
